Ultra punchy and crunchy drums

Layer your beats with some authentic roughness - and start a party like it's 1985! Using an 8-bit Casio sampler as his weapon of choice, LA-based producer Night Sports f***s up the sounds of six of the world's most legendary drum machines.

This pack is going to add some true and heartfelt 8-bit grit to your productions; whether used on its own - or layered with your other drum sounds.

THE PACK CONTAINS

158 wav samples in total, covering all sounds of the legendary "TR" drum machine series. Each sound has been individually processed through an 8-bit signal path designed for maximum grit and impact. You get:

505 + 8-bit grit: 26 samples
606 + 8-bit grit: 14 samples
707 + 8-bit grit: 24 samples
727 + 8-bit grit: 28 samples
808 + 8-bit grit: 40 samples
909 + 8-bit grit: 26 samples

For optimal results, try and mix the sounds from this pack with your regular drum samples, either by layering them together to form a single drum hit - or by building a beat with a combination of clean sounds and the TR-8bit samples. Or, of course, if you're in a really dirty mood, simply construct beats from scratch with this hard-hitter of a pack.

All sounds come as .wav files and can be imported into any music production software. A link to download the pack will be Emailed to you immediately after purchase. File size: 38 mb.

Night Sports on the sample pack

"The idea for this pack was to work with...
a) Analogue Candy's TR-LAX samples

b) The Casio SK-1 sampler from 1985

...to create the ultimate collection of 8-bit drum machine sounds. You may ask, do I need the "TR" samples to sound even more lo-fi and 80's than they already do? But deep inside you already know the answer..."

LA-based producer Night Sports curates this sample pack.

LA-based producer Night Sports curates this sample pack.

"The Casio SK-1 was the cheapest and dirtiest sounding 8-bit sampler of the 80's - capable of turning any sound source into an instant video game soundtrack.

But there's more to it than that. "Just" sampling the sounds onto my Casio SK-1 would have removed too much impact from the drum hits. So for the right vibe, I wanted the characteristic SOUND of the SK-1, while still maintaining the PUNCH of the TR-LAX samples that this pack is based on... The best way to achieve that was by running each individual sample through my own, custom designed, digital 8-bit signal path - based 100% on the SK-1's specifications. I parallel processed the sounds to find a sweet spot between the trademark Casio sound and a modern punch. Lastly, I added some extra analogue warmth at the end of the signal.

The end result is a powerful 8-bit weapon, which definitely sounds as gritty as the Casio SK-1 - but still feels as impactful as the TR-LAX pack. Use the sounds on their own - or even better: layer them with your other drum samples to add an instant touch of dirty and pure 80's magic to your beats. Enjoy!"
